behind Taruguín

Taruguín is a wine rooted in the lands of Soria, born from the shared passion of two friends: Julio, a native of San Esteban de Gormaz, and Nacho, known for his work at Bodega Demencia. Back in 2010, they joined forces with a clear goal: to create a wine that would capture the essence of the Ribera del Duero in Soria, challenging traditional stereotypes.

Taruguín was born from the desire to offer a fresher and more elegant interpretation of Ribera del Duero, always rooted in the old vineyards of Soria. After several vintages vinifying in Bierzo and confirming the vineyard's potential, they decided to establish a winery in San Esteban de Gormaz, within the “Ribera del Duero” Designation of Origin.

TEMPRANILLO

TARUGUÍN

The wine was racked to remove the largest sediments, while selecting the finer lees to accompany the wine during its aging in used 225-liter French oak barrels. The wine completed a total aging period of 13 months, with rackings twice a year.

VARIETY TEMPRANILLO

TARUGUÍN

Taruguín brings together grapes from all our vineyards, on both banks of the Duero River. We work with all the traditional varieties found in our historic vineyards, with a predominance of Tinto Fino. After a slow aging process in both barrel and bottle, this wine reveals its true character over the years — showcasing exceptional minerality and a perfect balance of tannins, acidity, and tertiary aromas.

VARIETY TEMPRANILLO

CORRAL DE TARUGUÍN

Produced with grapes from Soto de San Esteban, located in a high-altitude site known locally as El Corral, characterized by fresh breezes and a northeast orientation. The soil is sandy with pebbles, offering excellent drainage, at an altitude above 900 meters. A terroir unique terroir that we have carefully selected to craft a wine of the highest territorial expression.

AREA

In the easternmost part of the Ribera del Duero (Soria), at high altitude, we find old majuelo vineyards—small traditional plots—where resilient, timeworn vines still endure.

OUR VINEYARDS

Our vineyards are located at altitudes between 900 and 950 meters above sea level, on rugged terrain with natural terraces. This creates an ideal microclimate which, combined with the soil composition, ensures a slow and balanced ripening of the grapes.
